Artist Statement

Julian Liegler works from the understanding that systems alone are never enough. Drawing on a background in competitive sports, he translates the logic of discipline, structure and strategy into painting. Philosophy, despite his academic studies is not a subject matter but a material – fragmented and reassembled alongside mythology, psychology, personal biography, and collective narratives. His compositions resemble urban tapestries: layered signs, architectural fragments, and intense chromatic contrast. Chaos and construction coexist, creating visual environments that resist fixed interpretation. At the core of his practice lies an investigation into the nature of reality. What is tangible? What is projection? What only comes into existence through the act of perception? Rather than offering answers, Liegler’s work invites reflection and provokes movement in thought.
